I arrived 15 minutes before the start, the hall was half full but I managed to find a spot 10/15 meters away from the stage, on its left.

The audience was mixed: teenagers in goth dresses (the girls) and concert shirts (the boys), people in a more formal outfit (even a tie), and older people (yes, I’m in this group).

TriggerFinger was the support band. They had a lot of energy but I didn’t like them much: a couple of songs were nice (one reminded me of “Do the evolution” by Pearl Jam) but on the whole they seemed too different from the main act.

After a short break, “Mother Maiden” was on the screen behind the stage. From that point on, I was focused on listening and enjoying the concert: no pictures, no cellphone and so on.

They started with the first 4 songs from the album (skipping “Faster”), and then moved to older hits: half of the show was much like The Heart of Everything tour (or at least, the date at the Estragon in Bologna). I don’t know if most of the audience was there for the new album only, but I had a lot of fun. Then after few “old” songs, they performed Faster and Sinéad.

I have only 2 negative feedbacks. First, the shape of the stage was a bit odd, it was on two levels and I felt the band a bit distant even being so close to the stage. They had to go upstage to be seen by the people standing far back in the hall, moving away from the crowd.

Second, although I love Ice Queen as any other fan of WT, performing it at the beginning of the show was a bit of a waste, or at least the people around me weren’t excited as much as expected. However, I understand that performing it as encore for 10 years could be a bit tiresome, and Stairway to the Skies was a good choice as ending song.

Anyways, the concert was great. As I said to Ruud, the new lineup works very well: Mike was hitting the drums like crazy in the new songs and Stefan kept his slice of stage without troubles.

After the concert (2,5/3 hours of music if you consider the support band), we waited outside for a bit longer than an hour before the band showed up. I was looking elsewhere, then I turned and while I was thinking “is he Jeroen that one near the door?”, Stefan appeared just in front of me. I was the first one to take a picture with him, and I hope he wasn’t too weary to infer my full support from the few words I said (the other people waiting there jumped on the band the second after I took the picture with Stefan, so I missed the chance to exchange more than a sentence with him).

Ruud, Jeroen and Stefan hanged out with us for a while, signing, posing for pictures and talking with us. Ruud was surrounded by a crowd of girls with gleaming eyes.

After a while, Sharon joined us. She didn’t come in the middle of the crowd, but patiently greeted groups of 2/3 people at time. After taking a picture with her, I left: it was very late and I had to pick a train in the morning to go working. Also, it seemed wrong to keep her busy: she can sing for hours, but anyways she is a mother of 3 and there was a long line of people waiting to meet her.

Il primo è l’instant book su Steve Jobs uscito col Corriere qualche giorno fa. La quantità di errori grammaticali e imprecisioni è spiegabile solo dalla fretta nell’uscire: frasi composte dal solo soggetto, ripetizioni, errori grossolani (ad esempio Mereghetti che piazza l’uscita di A Bug’s Life nel 1988, pur avendo scritto poco prima che Toy Story è del 1995). La parte finale del libro è una trascizione dell’intervento di Jobs a Standford, intervento che poi è alla base di buona parte dei testi raccolti.

Dal mio punto di vista, meglio aspettare una biografia decente, speravo che ci fossero spunti interessanti ma si è rivelato una delusione.

L’altro libro è “Il cimitero senza lapidi e altre storie nere” di Neil Gaiman, una raccolta di racconti principalmente gotici, con una punta di mystery.

Penso sia il primo lavoro di Gaiman che non mi è piaciuto: un paio di storie sono belle, ma le altre sono o troppo lunghe , o telefonate (es. Avis Soleus e Il ponte di Ponti), oppure decisamente incomprensibili per i non anglofoni (“Il caso dei ventiquattro merli”). Almeno in una ho avuto l’impressione che si prendesse troppo sul serio. Non ho riletto Come parlare con le ragazze alle feste, lo trovate (in inglese) sul sito di Gaiman.

Probabilmente nei prossimi giorni editerò questo post per indicare quali sono state le storie che mi sono piaciute di più.

Per un po’ non prenderò niente di nuovo (a meno che non trovi un’offerta sul nuovo libro di A Song of Ice and Fire), e mi concentrerò su quello che ho: una raccolta di racconti di fantascienza (che è iniziata bene, ma poi è continuata così male da farmela abbandonare), La leggenda di Sigurd e Gudrun di Tolkien (devo ricordarmi che i poemi epici in metrica del tempo non sono una lettura adatta prima di addormentarsi) e qualche altra cosa finita così in fondo alla pila dei libri da non essere visibile…

Sai quando a volte incontri qualcuno così bello, e poi effettivamente ci parli e cinque minuti dopo, è pesante come un mattone?
Poi ci sono altre persone, e li incontri e pensi, “Non male, sono a posto”.
E poi arrivi a conoscerli… e la loro faccia è come adatta a loro. Come se avessero la loro personalità scritta sopra.
E si trasformano in qualcosa di così bello.

La maggior parte di quelli che ho conosciuto all’università e che hanno preso materie scientifiche (biologi, chimici) hanno avuto la stessa esperienza. La voglia di guardare come funzionano le cose, studiare e trovare nuove soluzioni.

Il professor Cannella e Giorgio Celli ci hanno lasciati. Piero non è più tanto giovane, e ormai l’hanno relegato alle sere estive, quando i giovani sono fuori a divertirsi.

Dopo pranzo noi guardavamo Quark. La sera, SuperQuark. Siamo diventati scienziati (o vorremmo esserlo).

Dopo pranzo i giovani di oggi guardano Studio Aperto. La sera, Giacobbo. Ditemi voi cosa diventeranno.

The setup in Bertinoro was perfect, thanks to the staff, and the school was very interesting. The lecturers covered many interesting topics and a couple of brand new ideas spawned into my mind while listening. All of them were very helpful and patient and guided us through cutting edge technologies and theories.

Apart from the educational aspects, all the people there was amazing: lecturers, staff members and, last but not least, my fellow students. We shared our academic experiences, we talked about the most various topics (relativity, human behaviour, history, rugby just to mention few) and we had a lot of fun. I can’t ever remember all the jokes that Peter McBurney told us at dinner, and he is the same lecturer that presented complex theories in the morning. The only things I regret are not being able to talk to everyone (we were 60 people and we had time to talk only while eating) and, due to the noise in the restaurants, having missed the chance to be part of some discussions that looked very interesting and/or funny.

I cannot mention all the great people who was there, but at least I can say thanks to Andreas from Vienna, Federico from Argentina, Gabriel from Belgium, Nando from New Mexico and Neda from Texas: I talked to them a lot and they were so kind not to hit me due to my rusty English and too many (Irish) coffee breaks.

Il divertimento è iniziato dalla prima scena del primo atto ed è finito solo con la conclusione dell’opera: tutti gli interpreti sono stati straordinari, l’orchestra ha lavorato bene per creare l’atmosfera e le scelte sul palco sono state azzeccate.

Il mattatore della serata (visti anche gli applausi ricevuti) è stato il baritono Omar Camata (Figaro), che ha spesso ammiccato al pubblico durante le scene più esilaranti. A me è piaciuta molto l’intepretazione del tenore Filippo Pina Castiglioni (Conte d’Almaviva), che ha cambiato spesso voce e dizione in modo da impersonare meglio i diversi travestimenti del suo personaggio.

Alessia Sparacio (Rosina), oltre a una mimica veramente azzeccata ha fatto degli acuti niente male. Il ruolo di Don Bartolo è stato interpretato da Claudio Ottino, che ha giocato a fare il verso agli altri ed è stato protagonista di alcune gag particolarmente divertenti. Antonio Marani (Don Basilio) e Giorgia Paci (Berta), pur avendo delle parti minori hanno dimostrato di non essere da meno del resto del cast. Ovviamente il coro “Vincenzo Bellini” di Budrio ha saputo rendere onore al teatro della propria città.

La direzione dell’orchestra “Bruno Maderna” di Forlì era affidata a Aldo Salvagno. In aggiunta all’orchestra era presente Maria Silvana Pavan, che al clavicembalo accompagnava le parti “recitate”.

Niente male davvero, peccato non siano in cartellone altre date altrimenti vi avrei consigliato vivamente di andare (effettivamente sul libretto è indicata una data del 12 aprile, ma sul calendario del teatro non c’è, forse è riservata alle scuole o cose simili).
